Designer babies

"If tomorrow never comes..."

We wouldn't know exactly what will happen tomorrow. Is it some day we're looking forward to? The anticipation lies within us. But we can never foresee tomorrow. Well, that is if we visit a psychic along the street.

There's something I would like to share with all of you. Designer babies.

What exactly are designer babies? We've heard of designer clothes, designer shoes etc.. Basically, the same concept applies. Designer babies are offsprings that are crafted in such a way that they are plotted in their appearances and characteristics.

In short:

They are of no difference with clones.

Will you agree with this idea of using modern technology and invention to create human beings? Let's look at the advantages, shall we? Designer babies possesses 'desirable' qualities: Beautiful, intelligent etc.. Genetically inherited diseases such as coronary atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia can be inhibited from passing down from one generation to the next. In other words, designer babies are 'perfectly created' asexually.

Now, my point of view. Eventhough designer babies are ideal, I feel that it is significant to be able to distinguish a person from another. If all humans are crafted, there would be no comparison between the weak and the strong, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. Just like a manufactured substance from a factory. Soon the world would be of winners with no losers. It's against the Law of Nature, the equilibrium of humanity.

It's love that made us arrive in this world. Our parents' love for each other. What would a designer child feel if he knows he is being drafted and carefully 'drawn' before he was 'born'?

There'll be no superiors and subordinates as everyone is as good as each other. Who would be doing the petty jobs? Who teaches and who learns? I'll leave you to ponder.
